Cabinet Member Decisions/Forward Plan
- Frank Downes, Cabinet Member for Resources
- Nick Cave, Interim Head of Support Services
Members will have the opportunity to question the Cabinet Member for Resources and Interim Head of Support Services about the progress of the project to-date. The Committee may wish to explore how the services will be transformed, how the project will be taken forward, the potential costs and savings.
The current support services project has been developed on from the previous work completed through the Pathfinder Shared Services Project. Through this process the County Council has developed better understanding of the market and has gained more experience, which helps to shape the next phase of the support services programme.
The Council’s budget requires at least £27m savings over the next three years and support services efficiencies will need to be considered as part of meeting the challenges of reduced funding.
- Support Services Presentation
- Michael Edmonds, Chairman of the Winter Maintenance Task and Finish Group
This is an opportunity for members of the Committee to discuss the key findings and recommendations presented in the final draft of the Winter Maintenance report. Members may also wish to ask the Chairman of the Task and Finish Group for points of clarification on any of the points raised within the draft report.
The winter of 2009/10 was one of the harshest the United Kingdom has experienced for around 30 years. Due to the prolonged nature of the snow event the Government requested that all local authorities restrict the amount of salt they use in order to conserve dwindling stocks. This led to the County Council implementing emergency routes to ensure that core roads were kept open during the worst of the weather.
- Draft Report

The Chairman will provide the committee with an update on overview and scrutiny work.
The Committee will have an opportunity to debate the impact of Overview and Scrutiny over the previous year. Members will have the opportunity during this session to reflect on what has gone well, what has not been successful and areas for improvement.
