Notice of Motion under Standing Order 2 (1)
To consider a notice of motion raised by Councillor Mrs M J Overton and seconded by Councillor D Suiter under Standing Order 2(1) as follows:
Â
“This Council asks the Minister of Defence to reconsider the decision to sack 25% of staff, possibly including young pilots passing out at RAF Cranwell this week. RAF recruitment of young men and women is stringent and we have already invested heavily in their selection and training. Losing these staff is a waste of resources which we can ill afford. We seek assurance that the excellent work at RAF Cranwell is secured for the long term future.
Â
We call upon the Minister of Defence to take a longer term strategic view. These particular cuts are perverse and wasteful. Further we abhor the waste of national taxes from the people of North Kesteven spent destroying new aeroplanes and continuing contracts to build new planes that are set for the scrap heap. Instead, we seek further work to be made to rationalise defence procurement methods as a means to reducing their budget.â€
