In addition to Waitrose there is the new Italian restaurant, La Scala, which has received great praise from those lucky enough to have dined there since its opening last Friday (April 8th) PJ Express is a new convenience store on the corner of Birmingham Road and Queen’s Street that has the bonus of Kissme Cupcakes and a coffee machine for grabbing a quick espresso. Unfortunately Sutton Coldfield town centre lost HMV from The Mall earlier in the year and more recently Past Times. Movement within the town includes JD Sports switching to larger premises next to WH Smith and the imminent take over of the old Woolworth building by H&M. The move will practically double H&M’s floor space and includes the addition of a menswear section. This building has a prominent position on the Parade and has been empty since Woolworth closed its doors more than two years ago. The new H&M is due to open on April 28 at 11am and the first 100 customers will receive gift vouchers. The vacated H&M building will probably remain empty for a short time as negotiations with potential retailers are still in progress. Other retailers to look out for in the near future are Jones the Bootmaker, Vinatage 1 Clothing and a new traditional sweetshop. Remember to keep ‘em peeled for the new ‘Cop Shop’ that will be occupying the previous Three Mobile shop near Marks and Spencer (which has moved inside The Mall near Argos). Like last year there will be representatives from the Neighbourhood Policing Team available at the premises providing an easy access point for the public.
