- Carlton is described as a well established housing estate, which is sandwiched in between Carlton Hill, Nottingham, Colwick and Netherfield areas. The area includes two small, but busy shopping areas on Carlton Hill and Carlton Square, which include off licences, restaurants and take away premises. It includes two primary schools, one on Southcliffe Road and one on Parkdale Road. There are two warden aided complexes on this beat area, six churches which vary in religion, and four public houses. There are two large blocks of flats near to Carlton Square. There are three main roads that run through the area, they are Carlton Hill, Southdale Road and Oakdale Road. There are three parks in the area. The main roads that border the Carlton beat are Carlton Hill, Greenwood Road, Shorwell Road and Greendale Road.
