Oldcastle Bridgend is also known or recorded in Historical documents as Nolton.
The Oldcastle ward encompasses south of Brackla Street, Nolton Street, Merthyr Mawr Road and Ewenny Road, the cut off being the Ewenny River where it merges with the River Ogmore and flows into the Bristol Channel.
Oldcastle also covers Cowbridge Road down to Waterton Point and Coychurch Road leading to Penybanc, The Crescent, Heol Dwyrain, Ffordd Ganol and Waunscil Avenue. All other streets leading off the areas mentioned are covered by the ward.
Oldcastle is home to an important part of World War II History. Â Island Farm which isÂ situated on the A48 bypass road, used to be a Prisoner of War Camp holding a number of Axis prisoners, mainly of German nationality. The list of former inmates include Military Leaders, who were awaiting extradition.
